Turn your ideas into currency and #PlayYourPart for a cause

#PlayYourPart is an initiative driven by Brand SA and a nationwide movement with the purpose of inspiring, empowering and celebrating active citizenship.

POLOKWANE – Brand SA recently invaded Lebowakgomo for a good cause. It was founded in 2002 and aims to create a positive and compelling brand image for South Africa. With the prospect of having a united brand image, it is important to relay a consistent brand message to create strategic advantages and opportunities for the country in an increasingly competitive global marketplace.

#PlayYourPart is an initiative driven by Brand SA and a nationwide movement with the purpose of inspiring, empowering and celebrating active citizenship.

The initiative is aimed at empowering South Africans to use some of their time, money, skills or goods to contribute to a better future for all. The initiative encourages young South Africans to be involved in the social development of their communities.

Over the last few months, Brand South Africa has hosted many such initiatives aimed at schools across the country, accompanied by Play Your Part ambassadors, Goliath & Goliath. The most recent initiative took place at SJ van der Merwe Technical High School which included Gr 12 learners from Lebowakgomo Secondary School and Derek Kobe High School. The learners got a chance to interact with the Goliath Brothers (Jason, Donovan and Nicholas) who spoke about the realities of life post-school, as well as equipping them with personal and mental insight to become agents of change in our country.

Learners were encouraged to be authentic in order to disrupt the perceived societal norm of what success in life looks like. The Principal of SJ van der Merwe, Sophie Matlapu, placed emphasis on the importance of “igniting the ideas”. She urged learners to play their part in their communities, especially with the number of learners set to leave school in the upcoming year.

The acting CEO of Brand South Africa, Thulisile Manzini, said: “When you are fresh from school, you can turn your own ideas into currency. If you are able to speak well, turn your voice into an invoice.” She reminded the learners to not depend on employment after school, but rather to make a living for themselves.
