3 Modjadjiskloof Municipal Traffic officers convicted for corruption
Each of the former officers were sentenced to two years imprisonment with the option of paying a R5 000 fine.
LIMPOPO – Following their arrest for taking a R50 bribe from an undercover policeman in 2017, three former Modjadjiskloof Municipal Traffic officers were convicted for corruption in the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court, reports Provincial Hawks Spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke.

Pambula Freddy Ngobeni (59), Happy Mahange (44) and Chayeza Rikhotso(37) were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Unit, in collaboration with the Road Traffic Management Cooperation, following public outcry concerning allegations of their corrupt activities along the metros’ roads in 2017.
“The team were arrested after taking a R50 bribe from an undercover policeman who was caught for reportedly exceeding the speed limit. The accused made numerous court appearances and they were each released on R1000 bail,” Maluleke said.
Ngobeni was sentenced to two years imprisonment with the option of paying a R5000 fine on 27 September 2019, while Mahange and Rikhotso were sentenced to two years imprisonment with an option of a R5000 fine, each, on 30 September.
“The cases against other traffic officers who were arrested together with the three accused are still on the court roll,’ Maluleke’s statement concluded.
