Mokopane placed under severe thunderstorm watch for this afternoon

Polokwane is not under the watch, however, the South African Weather Service says there is a possibility of isolated showers and thundershowers this afternoon.

MOKOPANE – According to the South African Weather Service, severe thunderstorms are expected over the Waterberg and Sekhukhune regions of Limpopo later today, which includes Mokopane.

The watch is active from 11:00 to 20:00 and other areas to be affected include Lepelle-Nkumpi, Bela Bela, Lephalale, Modimolle and Vaalwater.

While Polokwane isn’t under the watch, the Weather Service says there is a possibility of isolated showers and thundershowers for the city this afternoon.

The thunderstorm watch comes amidst persistently high temperatures in parts of Limpopo over the past few days and rain will bring relief to parts of the Waterberg district ravaged by wildfires.

Temperatures will likely ‘cool’ down from tomorrow but pick up again over the weekend.

The weather service has cautioned people to stay away from metal objects, not to play sport and to stay indoors, should there be a thunderstorm.
