DA calls for register of all corrupt traffic officials and law transgressors in Limpopo

DA Limpopo Spokesperson for Transport, Katlego Phala says the arrests show that Limpopo is facing a mounting challenge of traffic officials and officers who have turned to corrupt or fraudulent activities to supplement their income and says it is unacceptable.

POLOKWANE – The DA in Limpopo say they will be writing to the MEC for Transport, Dickson Masemola, to recommend the introduction of a register of offenders for all traffic officials and officials who have committed serious transgressions or have violated the law.

“A register to keep a record of all these transgressions is necessary to help keep our roads safe. It will assist the department in keeping a record of all officers found guilty of serious transgressions or crimes and will also assist in monitoring whether officials that are found guilty have been subjected to consequence management or proper disciplinary action,” she explained.

In addition, Phala says the register would also help the department identify municipalities that have serious problems around corrupt officers and fraud and allow for intervention to address the issue.

“Corruption cannot be allowed in our traffic law enforcement in Limpopo. The issuing of falsified or bogus roadworthy certificates and officials that accept bribes and are corrupt can lead to the loss of lives on our roads and there is a need to prevent this,” her statement concluded.
