Kgothatso is a cut above the rest
Master of hairstyles, Kgothatso Koma (34), took her talent and turned it into a living as a hairstylist at Renyeson's Hair Salon in Polokwane.
POLOKWANE – Kgothatso originates from a small village, Ditwebeleng near Burgersfort and says she did not have the opportunity to go to university because her family was not financially stable.
“I figured out a way of staying alive, regardless of my background and decided to teach myself how to put my hands to use. That is how the hair career came to life,” she added.
She said that she always wanted to become a successful, independent businesswoman so that she can inspire and empower other women who did not have an opportunity to go to university. “This is the reason why I wanted to be my own boss,” she added.

Kgothatso went to Bokantsho Primary School in Gauteng and completed high school at Tekanang Secondary School in Limpopo, where she completed Gr 12 in 2003.
“I started my hairstyling career in 2006, even though I did not study for it or have any qualifications in hair. Hairstyling came naturally and as a talent and I love doing hair. Hairstyling is a kind of therapy for me,” she added. She explained that she focuses on being a hairstylist and loves making women look beautiful.
“I specialise in Brazilian weaves, wigs, hair relaxers, razor cuts and any kind of hairstyle. My motto when my clients come to the salon is, ‘if they can think or create the hairstyle,’ then I can definitely make their dream come true,” she said.
She advises aspiring hairdressers to know who they are as hairdressers and what they want in life. “Always be open for new challenges and be creative with your hairstyles so that you remain a unique hairstylist in your area,” she advised.
Kgothatso is one of the hairdressers for Polokwane Goes Dancing (PGD) which will be held early next year.
