André Visser, a hero in these difficult times
To be a hero you do not necessarily need the ability to fly like Superman or run as fast as Flash. You could be an everyday dispensary manager at a pharmacy.
POLOKWANE – André Visser is one of the friendly faces at Dis-Chem Platinum Park who willingly serve the community, especially during these uncertain times. He became a pharmacist about 35 years ago.
“Our work and duties did not change at all since lockdown, it just got a bit busier. The few days before the lockdown were crazy, with most people panic buying. Our delivery service was quite busy so our telephone rang non-stop. We still have our regular clients that will come in to renew their prescriptions.”
He explains mornings are busier than afternoons and his colleagues are all positive people.
“We know what we do we do for the community. We know why we are here and we do our work with joy and to the best of our ability. By nature, I am a positive person. I love a new challenge and to complete it successfully.”
André explains the clients keep him motivated to work, even during tough times.
“Clients, old and new, offer a new challenge and I like to give them the best service possible. One thing I’ve noticed these past few weeks is how patient our clients are. That helps us to stay positive too. When we get feedback from the public, it also motivates us.”
A big challenge for André and his team is when they have difficulty getting the correct medicine for their clients.
“Sometimes the medication is not available and there is no alternative. It makes it difficult for us to do our best. Our clients keep us passionate about the work and my colleagues make my work worthwhile. We work together like a well-oiled machine. Loyal clients are also a motivation.”
