Vleislapa joins local initiative to feed families; asks you to join too
Despite the assistance offered through various government relief efforts during the nationwide lockdown, many families continue to struggle financially as a sudden loss of income is no laughing matter.
POLOKWANE – DA councillors in the city, in an effort to provide relief, partnered with The Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100 to launch the Corona Food Assistance project.
As a family-run business of many years, Vleislapa Welgelegen’s owners Jacques and Amanda van Tonder did not hesitate to join this effort by giving back to the community.
“We started by preparing 120 kg beef stew with pap which we donated to the project,” Jacques explains.
This, he said, was however by far not enough, and they now call on sponsors and individuals to come forward and contribute.
“Our plan is to now prepare chicken and if all goes well, this will be followed by meals consisting of beef. I know things are tough everywhere and businesses and individuals are struggling, and that is why I am opening up this appeal to everyone and not someone specific. If you are able to assist in any way, please help us. The need is truly great.”
Individuals who can contribute can either donate in the form of a cash deposit (EFT) or swipe their bank cards in the shop.
“I created an account that will reflect every donation. The chicken and other meat I use, I will deduct from this account, all at cost price. Anyone who donates can come at any time to see what their donation is used for. Any amount that you can afford is appreciated and those who can donate meat, are more than welcome to contribute.”
Vleislapa Welgelegen has since also prepared meals of mince and rice from an impala which was donated.
Jacques says they need between R3 500 and R4 000 a week, which will pay for the 120 kg meat needed.
This will go to the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100 who will feed more than 700 people who are in need.
