Save a life by visiting a SANBS clinic

By donating blood, you can save up to three people.

POLOKWANE – The SANBS’ current blood stock is at 3,6 days according to their website. Silungile Mlambo, SANBS chief marketing officer, says whenever the blood bank’s blood stocks reach below two-days, it places the lives of patients at risk.

“The lives of a haemorrhaging mother, newborn babies, accident victims, cancer-fighting patients and thousands of other patients in need of a blood transfusion are endanger when the stock is that low,” said Mlambo in a statement.

The SANBS has seen a decline in their blood stock since the announcement of lockdown level 2 and Mlambo has made an urgent call to all who are eligible, willing and able to donate blood to give the gift, as you have consistently done in the months that have passed.

If you are unsure if you are allowed to donate blood, you can visit the SANBS website and take a short quiz of 10 questions. This will take you one step closer to save three lives.

You may ask “How do I save three lives by donating once?”

The answer to this is that your one unit can be donated into three components namely red blood cells, plasma and platelets.

The Polokwane Donor Centre is open from 09:00 to 17:00 on Monday, Thursday and Friday as well as on Tuesday and Wednesday from 09:00 to 18:00.
