3 children killed in Northam house fire

A woman left three boys, all below the age of three, alone at home to buy food at the local shops.

LIMPOPO – A five-month-old baby and two, two-year-old boys died after their house caught fire this morning, 21 November.

An inquest docket has since been opened by police in Northam, outside Bela-Bela.

“A woman left three children alone when she went to buy food at the local shops. While she was on her way, she was informed that her house at Smasher block, Northam was burning,” reads a statement by Police Spokesperson, Col Moathse Ngoepe.

Ngoepe said the woman ran home and informed the police, fire fighters and emergency services that there were three children inside the house.

“They managed to remove the boys but unfortunately, they were certified dead and identified as Sinenhlahla Tsotetsi (five months old), Jabulane Tsotetsi (2) and Katlego Mogale (2),” he added.

The cause of fire is still unknown but will be revealed by the ongoing police investigations.
