‘Armed men in unmarked Golf 7s are officers, not criminals’

The police in Limpopo give clarity on a voice clip doing the rounds that tells of armed men in Golf 7's that are terrorising motorists along major roads in the province.

LIMPOPO – The public should be alert but not alarmed says Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo after a voice clip was spread on social media, informing the public that there is a group of armed men travelling in Golf 7s that are terrorising motorists along main highways in the province.

In a statement the police said they are aware of the voice clips which have gone viral on social media and give clarity on the matter. “As provincial police management, we are aware of the existence of these vehicles in the province and the occupants are actually law enforcement officers doing their job and not criminals impersonating police. We are already in the midst of the festive season period and police deployments have been heightened across the province to deal with criminal activities that often increase during this time. “

Police use both marked and unmarked vehicles when fighting the scourge of crime,” reads the statement.

Mojapelo further added that motorists should not be alarmed by these voice clips on social media but should report any instance were they suspect criminal activity.

“As the police we are aware that the possibility still exists that certain individuals may take advantage and impersonate police officers with the aim to commit crime.”

We therefore urge community members to report such criminals to the nearest police station or by contacting the 24-hour Crime Stop number at 086 001 0111, Mojapelo concludes.
