Celebrate Christmas and look forward to the new year, says local reverend
The Provincial Chairperson of the South African Council of Churches, Rev Awedzani Nemaukhwe, has urged citizens to refuse to be stuck in the melee of Covid-19 and celebrate Christmas.
POLOKWANE – Nemaukhwe also said they should anticipate the 2021 year with zeal and enthusiasm, although a lot of people are sceptical to plan for next year.
“Some are not certain if they will find the essence of Christmas because of the damage caused by the pandemic,” he added.
He pointed out that people need to celebrate life and defy death brought by Covid-19. “We need to move away from the pandemic and appreciate the goodness of life. We are aware that Covid-19 has taken a lot from us, but we must defy the odds.”
He urged people and churches to continue giving and share the little they have with those less privileged. “Christmas is a time for giving and sharing with the less privileged and the destitute. It is important to give because God gave us Jesus Christ who gave his life. If we give to the less privileged, we will respond to what God gave us. Let us share food, clothes and anything with those that are less privileged.”
Nemaukhwe commended churches, businesses, organisations and individuals who have initiated various social investment wings to cater for those in need of basic amenities.
“I have seen a lot of churches prepare meals for job seekers and ordinary citizens alike. They must continue with their acts of kindness, especially during the festive season.”
