What did 2020 teach you and how will you plan for 2021?
Review spoke to life coach, Marie-Lee du Plooy, and asked what lessons 2020 taught us and how we should plan for 2021.
POLOKWANE – When life coach Marie-Lee du Plooy was asked ‘What did 2020 teach us?’, she replied with a quote from Smita Nayan: “A few days of 2020 taught me that 365 days are not needed to change something in our life.”
Du Plooy says for the most of us, 2020 taught us to be patient and not accept everything as it is. “It does not matter in what situation you are, if you did not have patience during this crazy and not normal year, you struggled.”
She explained how some people struggle with the way we used to do things.
“Some struggle with the lack of personal space, while others miss their loved ones. Some missed liquor or cigarettes, when they were banned, however, we all learned a few lessons during 2020. I believe that it is the way we see life and love. We are all in some kind of a comfort zone and during lockdown, we started to use our imagination for a few new recipes, to move the furniture or to give more attention to the garden. Creative ideas started to see the light.”
The next question we should ask is; “How should we plan for 2021?”.
“Life goes on. I believe that we are all used to social distancing, wearing masks and sanitising our hands. That is part of life – for now. We should ask ourselves what we ca do right now in 2020, that will help us to manage 2021 in a more effective way. The world is changing fast and you cannot plan for everything, but you can stay committed to your decisions that you’ve made in 2020 and then you have to stay flexible in your approach to it,” she explained.
Du Plooy said the coronavirus pandemic taught us to be grateful for our health and life and that we must make the best of it. “By doing that, we have to pay attention to life, engage in life and enjoy life,” she concluded.
