Earlier, Mkhize spoke to stakeholders and media during a visit to the Thohoyandou Health Centre, where he explained that South Africa’s programmes for vaccination is on course.

The minister was pleased with the Limpopo Department of Health’s plan to get more people vaccinated. “There are two groups of cases; high population and high transmissible or lower transmissible. Limpopo is part of the lower transmissible group along with the North West, Northern Cape and Mpumalanga. Free State has been between the two groups, while the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal are part of the first group,” he explained.

Mkhize said it is clear that Limpopo’s cases has been “behaviour-driven”.

“There has been a behaviour-driven resurgence after New Year’s Eve and the resurgence could have been less severe if there was no complacency in the communities. The province’s numbers have already shown a decline and we once again urge people to wear masks, sanitise and make sure they are in well ventilated spaces,” he added.

Mkhize is set to conclude his visit at the Modimolle Multi-Drug Resistant TB Hospital.
