Ebenenzer dam shows slight improvement from last week – Dept
According to a statement issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation, the provincial water storage stands at 60.3%

LIMPOPO – Ebenezer dam, which is part of Polokwane Water Supply System, has shown a slight increase and now stands at 26.2.% from last week’s 24.4%. This is according to the figures released by the Department of Water and Sanitation in their weekly Status of the Dam report.
In a statement, Departmental Spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau said that the provincial water storage has in a week increased from 59.9% last week to 60.3%. “This week’s improvement is a continuation from late last year when dam levels in the province started to recover after several weeks of declining.”
He added that this week by week improvement is expected to continue due to tropical storm ‘’Eloise” which is predicted to bring extreme rainfall in escarpment of Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Northern KwaZulu Natal starting from Sunday, 24 January 2021.
He gives a breakdown of dam levels in the province:
De hoop Dam in Steelpoort River in the eastern part of the province moved up to 90.5% from last week’s 89.9%. This is a considerable rise from last year’s 84.9%.
Flag Boshielo Dam located in Olifants River which is part of Polokwane Water Supply System is sitting comfortably at 81.1%, a slight decrease compared to last week’s 82.2%. Same period last year it was over 100% at 108.5%.
Magoebaskloof Dam located between Polokwane and Tzaneen which mainly provides irrigation to the surrounding areas is overflowing at 100.8%, a slight drop from last week’s 100.9%.
Mutshedzi Dam located in the far north of the province stands at 100.2% a decrease from last week’s 100.6%, at the same time last year it was at sitting at 90.4%.
Rust De Winter Dam has risen from 99.5% last week to 100.0%.
In the Vhembe District, the Nandoni dam situated just outside Thohoyandou in the Luvuvhu Water Supply System, which is supplied by Luvuvhu river has moved up a notch from last week’s 102.3% to 104.2% this week, this is an enormous increase from last year’s 89.9%.
Klaserie Dam is at 103.4% a rise from last week’s 100.8%.
Hans Merensky is at 102.3%, Vergelegen at 101.6%, Dap Naude Dam at 105.6% and Vondo stands at 101.2%, Middel-Letaba is at 0.7%, Glen Alpine at 12.9%, Doorndraai at 7.5%.
Ebenezer has shown a slight increase and now stands at 26.2.% from last week’s 24.4%, Tzaneen is at 21.7% and Modjadji is also very low at 11.6% a further drop from last week’s 11.7%.
“Although the Department of Water and Sanitation acknowledges that this week’s slight increase is a positive outlook, Limpopo residents are urged to continue utilising water cautiously since they are not out of the woods yet,” he concludes.
