‘Enough is enough we will fight the Covid scourge together’
Mankweng Taxi Association Spokesperson, Frans Kgasago emphasised the need for commuters and members of taxi associations alike to work together during the recent fumigation of the local taxi ranks.

POLOKWANE – ‘We are grateful to the department for this gesture and we will work together to fight the spread of the Covid-19 virus.”
These were the words of the Mankweng Taxi Association’s Spokesperson, Frans Kgasago during the recent fumigation of the Seshego Polokwane and Mankweng taxi ranks. This followed reports of increasing cases of Covid-19 among taxi operators and drivers, which pose a serious health risk to public transport users.
On Wednesday the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya accompanied by the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District, John Mpe took time to fumigate the ranks and taxis in an effort to contain the spread of Covid-19.
“Taxi ranks have been identified as hotspots for the Covid-19 second wave infections. The programme is aimed at ensuring that taxi operators, drivers, queue marshals, commuters and cleaners among others understand the health protocols and the need for behaviour change,” Ramakhanya said.
She called on operators to ensure that their commuters wear their masks before they enter the taxis and to fumigate and sanitise their vehicles at all times.
