Tip-off leads to second major drug bust in space of two weeks
Three men have been arrested and drugs worth over R1 million seized during separate sting operations in the city since the start of the new year.

POLOKWANE – The arrest of two men in the Penina park and central business district (CBD) areas, respectively comes almost two weeks after local authorities busted a 40-year-old foreign national for drug trafficking.
Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe explained that a tip-off by a member of the public led to the arrest of the first suspect, a 35-year-old man from Penina Park on Monday, 18 January.
“At around 18:20 the police received information about illegal drugs being kept at a residence in the area. Members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol team reacted swiftly and the man was arrested at the residence. The premises was searched and drugs worth and estimated R100 000 were seized,” Ngope explained.
During the same operation the members arrested a 42-year-old man for transporting and dealing in drugs in the CBD. “390 sachets of nyaope, with the street value of R11 500 and R1 010 cash was seized.

Both the accused are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon on charges related to possession and dealing of drugs.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man who is believed to be the ‘kingpin distributor of drugs ‘ is still in custody following his arrest on 8 January. During the bust the police seized large quantities of drugs, which included nyaope, crystal meth and various drug manufacturing chemicals, with the street value of over R1 million, at a residence in the city.
The man is expected to re-appear in the same court soon.
