Ebenezer and Olifantspoort water schemes at low capacity, muni updates

Pumping at both plants have been disrupted due to ongoing heavy rains in the Mopani and Sekhukhune districts and residents are advised to use water sparingly.

POLOKWANE – Disruptive rains being experienced in the Mopani and Sekhukhune districts has negatively affected the city’s main water sources.

According to Thipa Selala, Spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality says factors such as high raw water turbidity and constant power outages at the Ebenezer and Olifantspoort plants, have had a negative impact on the reservoirs in the city.

He explained that the two main water sources, which are operated by Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) are currently pumping to Polokwane at low capacity. “Olifantspoort Plant is pumping 88 liters per second (l/s) to Polokwane while Ebenezer Scheme is pumping 80 l/s.”

Reservoir levels, as of this morning, are as follows:

• Potgieter – 0%

• Krugersburg 50Ml – 5%

• Krugersburg 30Ml Dome – 0%

• Krugersburg 30 Ml Flat – 0%

• Seshego – 12%

Olifantspoort plants supplies the Ga-Chuene, Ga-Maja, Thokgwaneng, Seshego and Polokwane areas.

Ebenezer plant supplies water to the Segwashi, Boyne, Badimong (Sophy Mamabolo), Mankweng, Sebayeng, Dikgale, Segopje, Mothapo, Makotopong, Laaste Hoop and Dalmada areas.
