Muni updates on Polokwane’s water ‘challenges’
The Polokwane Municipality's Spokesperson, Thipa Selala, says water supply interruptions in various parts of the municipal area, will continue.
Selala explains that current challenges are bring forth by disruptive rains, as warned by the South African Weather Services, as well as interrupted water and electricity services.
“Various factors that include high raw water turbidity and constant power outages due to disruptive rains and winds are affecting main water sources. These challenges continue to have a negative impact on reservoir levels that have been under severe strain for days,” he adds in his statement.
Selala indicated the reservoir levels, as of this morning:
Potgieter – 0%
Krugersburg 50Ml – 5%
Krugersburg 30Ml Dome – 0%
Krugersburg 30 Ml Flat – 0%
Seshego – 12%
He adds that the Olifantspoort plant is pumping 88 liters per second (l/s) to Polokwane while the Ebenezer scheme is pumping 80 l/s.
“The two main water sources operated by Lepelle Northern Water are pumping to Polokwane at low capacity due to high turbidity and continuous stoppages resulting from power outages. Areas that are affected by this challenge will be provided with relief measures through water tankers. Residents should contact the Water Helpline at 015 023 5376 / 5629 with their water-related challenges,” he concludes.
