Police recover stolen groceries at Nirvana supermarket

Police also arrested four men for the possession of suspected stolen properties.

Four men, between the ages of 27 and 33, were arrested in Nirvana on Thursday, after they were found in possession of suspected stolen properties.

Members of the Crime Prevention Unit received information about the existence of stolen groceries at a supermarket in the area, said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“The four men were arrested on the spot and a large amount of various grocery items, with an estimated value of over R100 000, were recovered from inside a truck trailer. Some of the items were already offloaded and found inside the shop,” he explained.

Ngoepe said preliminary investigations revealed that a truck, loaded with groceries, was hijacked in Delmas, Gauteng.

“The groceries were then allegedly delivered at the supermarket and the truck, with an estimated value of over R900 000, was later recovered in the Bela-Bela policing area, without the trailer,” he added.

The swift action by members of the police has been welcomed by Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba.

“The men are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 8 February, and more arrests are expected as a manhunt for the remaining suspects is still underway. Anyone with information that can lead to their arrest, may contact Capt Obed Tshikhudo at 082 565 8566 or the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111. Alternatively, they can contact their nearest police station or use the MySAPSApp,” Ngoepe concluded.
