Residents who ‘go the extra mile’ recognised at Rotary Club awards
The Rotary Club of Polokwane recently recognised the efforts of persons and institutions which performed exceptional services to the community.
Rotary President, Pierre Mouton said that the club usually hosts an annual awards evening, at which they recognise members of the community and organisations that ‘goes the extra mile’ for those less fortunate.
“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this function could not take place, so it was decided to continue with the project, but to hand over the awards individually, respecting the health regulations,” Mouton explained.
Community awards were made to Shayne Moodie for unselfish and dedicated commitment to Rotary with her Teacher Development Programme and Elvie Nkhawana for unselfish and dedicated commitment to Rotary as a leader in the Teacher Development Programme.
The Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100 and its Anns received an award for the effective feeding scheme during Covid-19 and Tinkie Wolfaardt for teaching retired people line dancing at the Koraal Retirement Centre.
The South African Council of Churches was recognised for supporting the community during lockdown by organising online events and communication with congregants. Sizabantu Piping Systems was awarded for supporting Rotary’s community service projects, including the collection, storage and distribution of wheelchairs and walking aids.
Vocational awards were made to Sue Pitcairn for dedicated health care services (nursing) to SANCA and the community, Marius Bekker of Bronzekey Manufacturing for assisting Rotary with transportation of wheelchairs and donation of sanitising stations, Bettina Rabiega and the staff of Plumtree Lodge for their assistance in hosting safari guests and catering, at short notice, for various Rotary functions and René von Houwald for assisting the late President Marius Liebenberg with RYLA and ROJAC projects.
The efforts of health caring institutions did not go unnoticed and Mediclinic Limpopo, Netcare Pholoso Hospital, Pietersburg Provincial Hospital and Seshego and Mankweng hospitals received awards for unselfish service and dedication of all staff members to the community during the Covid-19 pandemic. Care for education was recognised for substantial donations of Duplo and Lego for rural communities in Limpopo.
