Residents urged to report those who vandalise, steal municipal infrastructure

The Polokwane Municipality is currently being inundated with incidents of theft and vandalism of electrical infrastructure.

Spokesperson for the Municipality, Thipa Selala says that the theft and vandalism of service infrastructure impacts negatively on the safety and security of resident.

This financial year alone, the municipality has suffered approximately R2 million as a result of these activities.

Selala explained that the latest incident of vandalism and theft happened on Saturday evening in Ladanna. “Street lights were vandalized and wires stolen on a large scale.”

The municipality is currently  implementing measures to deal with street lights repairs as a result of the maintenance backlog and these ongoing incidents hampers the municipality’s efforts of providing quality services.

The municipality is working closely with the police and community policing forums to be minimise these criminal activities. “We appeal to residents to assist in this fight by reporting any suspicious activity to Polokwane Municipality’s Law Enforcement services at 015 023 5484 or to the police,” he concluded.
