LIMPOPO – The police in the province have arrested a fifth suspect, believed to be involved in the house robbery of one of the municipal mayor’s in the Waterberg district.

The said mayor’s house was reportedly broken into on Sunday, 14 February.

At the time, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said that the information they received, indicated that four unknown armed men accompanied by two women, stopped at the security guard at the mayor’s house.

“They reportedly asked the security guard to see the mayor, but before he could respond, they attacked him, entered the house and tied everybody up inside before they ransacked the house,” Ngoepe explained.

Four suspects; a 33-year-old woman, 34-year-old woman, 50-year-old man and a 38-year-old man, was previously arrested.

Three of the four were granted R1 000 bail by the Phalala Magistrate’s Court, while the 38-year-old man was denied bail because of his pending cases in other provinces.

The fifth suspect, a 45-year-old woman from Kempton Park, is set to make her fist appearance in the Phalala Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 April.

“All five suspects will appear again in the same magistrate’s court on 30 April. Police investigations are continuing and more arrests are expected,” Ngoepe concluded.
