R81 collision claims the lives of woman and toddler

The traffic incident happened approximately 5km outside Polokwane on Sunday evening.

POLOKWANE – A head-on collision n the R81 on Sunday evening has claimed the lives of a two people, a woman and a two-year-old child.

According to The Media Liaison Officer for the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Mike Maringa the incident happened approximately 5km outside Polokwane and involved a sedan and a loading van.

Two passengers from the van, a woman and a two-year-old child, died on impact when the vehicles collided. “Two others sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment,” Mike said.

The exact cause of the incident will form part of a police investigation however unsafe overtaking has not been ruled out. A case of culpable homicide has been opened.
