Limpopo Hawks nab man for fraud in Polokwane

The man had attempted to defraud a local tyre company of over R800 000, says the Hawks.

POLOKWANE – A 34-year-old man faces a charge of fraud after he attempted to defraud a local company of over R800 000.

According to the spokesperson for the Hawks, Capt Matimba Maluleke the accused had reportedly contacted the said company on 23 March purporting to be buying tryes on behalf of a government department.

“He requested a quotation for assorted tyres amounting to R876 000 and presented them with a purchase order form purporting to be from the Limpopo Department of Health.”

Maluleke added that the manager of company became suspicious of the order and called the department to verify the order. “He learned that they had no knowledge of the said transaction and notified the authorities.”

The suspect was arrested at the company on Wednesday, 5 May when he came to collect the tyres.

He is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
