Bootcamp boosts women
On Women's Day a few friends came together, with the help of their personal trainer, to host a bootcamp in the parking lot of Thornhill Shopping Centre.
polokwane – The bootcamp was held by Nkakareng Rakgoale and Thembi Nkadimeng to officially launch a fundraiser for one of their friends, Mmaphuthi Ramohlale, who was diagnosed with a chronic disease in 2016.
Ramohlale said she had mixed emotions when she got to the bootcamp and realised what was going on.
“I honestly did not know what they were planning. I was just surprised when I realised the day was about helping me regain the quality of my life by raising money towards my medical bills. Exercising and working out has become part of my daily life and it made sense why they would choose it to officiate the start of the fundraiser.”
Mmaphuthi said life has not been the same since she was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, but added that moments like these when friends come together to celebrate her make it all worth it.
She explained that her condition involves a chronic pain that affects the trigeminal nerve in the face which is responsible for carrying sensation from the face to the brain. The symptoms range from mild to severe facial pain, often triggered by chewing, speaking or brushing teeth.
She was pleased with the turnout, saying she was surprised that so many people came out to support her. The T-shirts they sold to raise money were selling like hotcakes.
The women participated in various exercises as part of the bootcamp and were reminded to always try and lead healthy lifestyles. “It is great that women can come together and celebrate one of their own. The only way we can become stronger is by sticking together and being there for each other. I truly appreciate everyone who came out today.”
She said if anyone would like to buy a T-shirt or donate to the cause, they can contact her personal trainer Mmakolobe Raselebana on 072 562 0550.
