Cosas wishes Gr 12s all the best with 2021 trial exams
The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) wished the class of 2021 all the best in the start of their trial examination by urging them to work hard in preparing to change the future of South Africa.
POLOKWANE – Gr 12s across the province started their trial exams, or what is known as the preparatory examinations, ahead of writing the national senior certificate exam at the end of the year (NSC).
According to Education spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene the examinations are scheduled to run from August 23 until September 23. She says a total of 106 700 full-time candidates will be writing at 1 331 centres across the province. “The department has put measures in place that will ensure incident-free examinations amid the need to strictly adhere to the education sector’s standard operating procedures on the prevention and management of Covid-19.”
According to Chuene, question papers have been printed and packaged per school and the deliveries are done per consignment and made available to the schools daily. “Exam officials at district and circuit level have been trained in terms of the conduct of examination officials. Principals have also been trained on the conduct of examinations as chief invigilators, who in turn train teachers as invigilators.”

Provincial secretary Scalo Mahladisa says in these trying times, the students movement finds itself in between dealing with elements that have capacity to disturb learners and process of writing itself.
“Out of all beliefs, hard work remains the only tradition that continues to enjoy a top position on the road to success. It is therefore through your hard work that your success can be measured as the hope of this country.”
Cosas further pleads with teachers to organise themselves into volunteers of education moving away from just being employees. “As we all know Covid-19 has imposed on us extraordinary circumstances which require an extraordinary response from us, we plead with teachers to befriend us in our preparatory activities as our future as learners belongs to the country not just individuals. It is therefore in the hands of both learners and teachers to ensure that our collective hardworking activities can fully contribute to changing the country.”
