Polokwane teachers shine at national awards

Local teachers did the city proud by performing well at the national teaching awards.

POLOKWANE – The provincial league of this prestigious awards ceremony took place on October 1 at The Ranch Resort and teachers were awarded for their outstanding work. The competition was open to teachers in public schools and they were able to enter into 14 categories.

Some of the teachers made it to the national competition hosted by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on October 6 in Gauteng. Limpopo Education MEC Polly Boshielo stated that the performance of the teachers this year is no exception to the past as Limpopo’s teachers have shown some outstanding performances in previous years. She added that the achievements show that the province has teachers that go beyond the call of duty to ensure that the learners receive the best quality education. “We appreciate massively the good work that you get done even under the most stressful and sometimes impossible conditions. Your contributions to education remain immense and immeasurable. Thank you, team Limpopo,” she said.

Polokwane winners:

· Regina Ramadimetja Magolo from Taxila Secondary School obtained third place in the category for excellence in secondary school teaching.

Deputy Basic Education Minister Dr Makgabo Reginah Mhaule, excellence in mathematics teaching FET position two winner Matshentshe William Mathipa and Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga.

· William Mathipa from Flora Park Comprehensive High School obtained first place in the category for excellence in mathematics teaching (FET). He went on to represent the province at the national competition where he obtained second place.

· Mokgohlwe Bonus Kgabe from New Horizon Special School obtained second place in the category for excellence in special needs teaching.

· Thabo Marcus Ratema from Hoërskool Noorderland obtained first place in excellence in secondary school leadership.

· Kopedi Jessica Nkanyane from Hoërskool Noorderland obtained second place in the national best learner awards.
