Polokwane: Man killed as bakkie crashes into palisade fence

A man was killed in a single vehicle collision just off Munnik Avenue last night (February 1).

POLOKWANE – ER24’s spokesperson Russel Meiring explained that paramedics arrived on the scene at around 22:30 to find a bakkie, upright, on the side of the road against a palisade fence. “A man was seen lying motionless in the driver seat of the bakkie and upon closer inspection, medics found that parts of the fence had ‘struck him in the chest’.”

The man was declared dead on the scene, by paramedics.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the incident and said a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.

“It is alleged the driver, a 20-year-old man, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the fence.”

He added that the driver was killed on impact while a passenger, aged 20, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local private hospital for further  medical treatment.

“The exact cause of the accident is unknown at this stage and investigations still continue.
