One dead, four injured in head-on collision on N1

The road has now been opened.

POLOKWANE – The N1 has been opened after it was previously closed following a head-on collision.

Transport media liaison officer Mike Maringa told Review that the collision occurred near Kranskop toll plaza on the N1 north.

“One person was killed in the head-on collision which involved a SUV and a luxurious minibus. It is alleged that the driver of the minibus lost control of the vehicle and collided with the oncoming SUV,” he explained.

Maringa said the driver of the SUV was killed on impact. “Four people were rushed to the nearby hospital, and the road has now been opened for motorists travelling to Polokwane,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, a man died and a woman and child were injured after the vehicle they were travelling in rolled approximately 54km outside Polokwane.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring the incident happened on an unnamed road off the R37 in Ga-Maja yesterday afternoon.
