Two killed, six injured in head-on collision on R71
Transport MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has called on motorists to drive with extra caution over the long weekend.
LIMPOPO – A head-on multi-vehicle collision on the R71 near Haenertsburg has claimed the lives of two people.
According to Transport media liaison officer Mike Maringa, the incident occurred earlier this afternoon.
“It is alleged that the driver of a bakkie, who was speeding, tried to overtake on the barrier line and then collided with two oncoming vehicles. The driver and a passenger were killed on impact while four people were critically injured and another two sustained serious injuries,” he explained and added that they were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Maringa said reckless and negligent driving has been cited as a possible cause of the incident.
“Transport and Community Safety MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya urges motorists to take extra caution during this long weekend. The MEC says the department has deployed officials on a number of roads to increase traffic official visibility and to ensure safety,” he concluded.
