Woman killed, four injured after collision on N1
A nine-year-old girl is among those who escaped with minor to moderate injuries.
POLOKWANE – A woman, believed to be in her 50s, has died following a collision on the N1 yesterday (March 27).
The incident occurred approximately 10km outside Polokwane, according to a statement by ER24.
“ER24 and other emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene at around 15:00. Our paramedics found a large truck parked in the emergency lane while a wrecked light motor vehicle had come to a stop in the middle of the road,” their statement reads.
ER24 added that upon closer inspection, their paramedics found the woman lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle.
“The woman had already succumbed to her numerous injuries and was declared dead by the provincial EMS. Four other patients, including a nine-year-old girl, were assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries,” they said and added that the patients were treated and transported to a hospital in Polokwane.
The driver of the truck escaped injury and details surrounding the incident are unknown. “Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” the EMS provider concluded.
