LIMPOPO – Transport MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has sent her messages of condolences to the families of the six people who were killed on Limpopo’s roads in the early hours of Saturday (April 30) morning.

Media liaison officer Mike Maringa said in a statement that the six were killed in two separate collisions.

“The first incident was reported in the Vhembe district on the N1 north outside Musina and involved a sedan and a bus. It is alleged that the sedan driver was trying to overtake when it collided head-on with an oncoming bus, killing four people instantly,” he explained and said the four fatalities were those driving in the sedan.

The second incident involved a sedan and a bakkie. “Two passengers were killed in the head-on collision between Mapuve and Nkuri villages outside Giyani. Five people escaped with injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital,” he said.

Maringa added that speeding has been cited as a possible cause of the collision.

Lerule-Ramakhanya urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, especially this long weekend where the province has seen an increase in traffic volumes on the N1.
