[LISTEN] Five killed in head-on collision outside Giyani

A male passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital in a "critical state".

LIMPOPO – “Be extra cautious and don’t drive recklessly.”

These are the words of Transport MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya after five people were killed in a head-on collision this morning (May 27).

In a statement, Transport media liaison officer Mike Maringa explained that a sedan and bakkie collided on the R529 near Bambeni village outside Giyani in the Mopani district.

“Four occupants from the sedan were killed, while another male passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical state,” he explained and added that the driver of the bakkie was also certified dead on the scene.

Maringa said preliminary investigations cited reckless and negligent driving as the possible cause of the incident.

Lerule-Ramakhanya conveyed her deepest condolences to the affected families and wished the survivor a speedy recovery. She urged motorists to adhere to the laws of the road to help clamp down on road fatalities.
