Man wanted for rape, housebreaking finally arrested in Vaalwater

The 35-year-old man has been on the run after allegedly committing multiple crimes in the Waterberg District.

LIMPOPO – After multiple investigations ensued, a 35-year-old man on the run was finally arrested for various crimes committed in the Waterberg District.

Members of Modimolle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in collaboration with members of Vaalwater Detective Unit conducted a series of investigations that led to the accused’s apprehension in Vaalwater on Monday (November 21).

“He stands accused of five counts of rape and two counts of housebreakings, for which he appeared in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (November 22),”  Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed in a statement.

The case has since been postponed to allow time for further investigations and the accused will remain in custody until formal bail application can be made on December 1.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the team’s diligent work in an effort to arrest this man who was wanted for a long time.

“As the police, we need to keep our boots firmly on the ground now and forever to make our communities feel and be safe,” he concluded.
