Wanted gang member arrested in Tshikanoshi village

The 37-year-old man can be linked to four cases of business robbery and is suspected to be part of a gang responsible for serious crimes in Limpopo.

LIMPOPO – Recently, a breakthrough was made in the search for a gang of criminals responsible for serious and violent crimes in the Sekhukhune District.

A 37-year-old man, who is believed to be associated with the group of wanted people was arrested in the Matlerekeng policing area on Thursday (November 24), after he was tracked down in Tshikanoshi village.

“The accused tried to flee on foot into nearby bushes, but luckily the police officials on scene gave chase and managed to apprehend him,” Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed in a statement.

Investigations followed the criminal group who was reported to terrorise various areas in the province, such as Dennilton an Matlerekeng, as well as Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga, which led them to the arrest of the wanted man.

Preliminary investigations positively linked him to four cases of business robbery committed earlier this month.

“Upon his arrest, the police confiscated a 9mm pistol, a magazine with six live rounds, 64 live rounds, a grinder, whiskey brands and undisclosed amount of cash,” Ledwaba added.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the investigating team for the success and called upon community members to continue assisting the police in the fight against crime.

The apprehended man will appear before the Mdutjana Magistrate’s Court in Siyabuswa on Monday (November 28) facing charges of armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen properties and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A manhunt for the other suspected gang members are still underway.
