MH Enrichment centre receives a boost from local golfers
Mitchell House's Pathways Polokwane Enrichment Centre recently hosted a golf day to further develop the centre, and local golfers gladly flocked to the greens.
POLOKWANE – Golfers graced the Polokwane Golf Club with their presence on November 11 to participate in Mitchell House’s Pathways Polokwane Enrichment Centre golf day.
Participants honoured the invite by the centre to direct profits made from the day towards developing the centre.
A total of 98 players competed in the individual stableford day.
Christo Stears and Yaya Aziz took first and second place respectively both with 39 points and Thomas Matlaila in third with 38 points.
Deputy head of the enrichment centre, Sue Altenroxel said the Covid-19 pandemic made fundraising difficult and they were grateful that the event would help keep the learners at school.
“In 2006, Pathways children became Mitchell House learners, and the enrichment centre was established. A partnership was founded. Inclusion and all opportunities that existed by being part of a mainstream school experience were embraced. Mitchell House has fully absorbed inclusion and the Pathways ethos of ‘there is no child who is ineducable’. The success of this endeavour is almost indescribable and is based on hundreds of stories of children with disabilities and typically developing children learning alongside and with each other. Mitchell House covers the operational costs of the centre,” she remarked.
