Young man killed by vigilante group in Nkomo village

The police in Giyani were notified after the victim, who was accused to stealing clothes and cellphones, succumbed to his injuries.

LIMPOPO – A 22-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after he was the victim of vigilantism in Nkomo village last Wednesday (December 7)

“The victim was allegedly attacked by four men in a local tavern and dragged to a public location in the village called the visiting site. Here the young man’s father saw him before he died due to his injuries,” Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed in a statement.

The police in Giyani were notified and a case of murder was opened.

After a thorough investigation and helpful information from the community, the police managed to track down the four men, aged between 20-31 suspected to have attacked the victim.

“The attack was reportedly an act of vigilantism as the four apprehended men accused the victim of stealing their clothes and cellphones,” Ledwaba added.

The men were arrested on Sunday (December 11)

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the investigating team, as well as the collaborative community members who all contributed to the arrest of the alleged killers.

The men will appear before Giyani Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of murder.
