Rotary Club of Polokwane bids farewell to Susan van der Merwe
During a farewell dinner at the club last Monday, the Rotarians applauded the role that Van der Merwe played as member of the club for a decade and in particular during her presidential year.
POLOKWANE – An era in the life of president of the Rotary Club of Polokwane and much-loved counselling psychologist, Susan van der Merwe will come to an end when she relocates to a retirement village in Pretoria at the end of this month.
Van der Merwe lived on the campus of the University of Limpopo with her husband, Professor Gerhard van der Merwe for 18 years, whereafter the couple relocated to the then Pietersburg in 1993 and she continued with her practice after Gerhard passed away.
She intends to continue with her practice but will now find more time to spend with her children and grandchildren in Pretoria and Secunda, while some visits to her other children in London will also be on her list after her semi-retirement.
During a farewell dinner at the club last Monday, the Rotarians applauded the role that Van der Merwe played as member of the club for a decade and in particular during her presidential year.
“Susan’s presidential year will be known as a year in which the highest number of new members were inducted into the club and we thank her for her devotion,” past president Mxolisi Bambo said.
“The last year was one of the best years of my life. I was so well supported by all the Rotarians and it made my task rather easy,” Van der Merwe said and added that she will forever foster the close relationships that were built.
“It was such an honour to embrace the opportunities to be at the service of our community and to see some of our goals becoming a reality,” the outgoing President concluded.
