Polokwane doctor gunned down in murder-suicide incident
A 35-year-old doctor attached to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital was shot and killed by her husband before he turned the gun on himself.
POLOKWANE – The police in Polokwane say domestic violence cannot be ruled out following the death of two doctors on Monday (March 27).
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said a female doctor (32) attached to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital was shot dead by her husband (35) who then turned the gun on himself.
The man was a doctor attached to the Donald Frazer Hospital in Thohoyandou.
“The bodies of the deceased were found at the Thornhill Village Estate by a family member who arrived from Vhembe on Monday afternoon. The police were then called,” his statement explained.
Mojapelo said preliminary investigations revealed the couple had a fight earlier in the day and the woman was shot later the afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Dr Tshimangadzo Muofhe and her husband Dr Mainfred Shikwambane.
In February, another murder-suicide incident claimed the lives of two Limpopo paramedics.
The couple, who were found dead in Bochum, were attached to the Helena Franz Emergency Medical Services.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has urged people experiencing domestic challenges to seek assistance and resolve their issues instead of resorting to taking lives.
