Sho’t left to Seshego this weekend for the Telkom Netball League

POLOKWANE – This weekend will see the 2023 edition of the Telkom Netball League (TNL), hosted at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex in Seshego.

The opening ceremony, set for April 27, will see the event even larger as in previous years, with the addition of two more teams to this year’s line-up.

The Limpopo Lilies will be joining the Baobabs after being given a second opportunity to compete in the league, along with the Free State’s three-times champions, Sonoblomo.

In the midst of activations and awareness programmes leading up to the upcoming Netball World Cup to be hosted in Cape Town this year, the competition’s power week will start in Seshego, a first for the province, while the finals will be played at the National Arena in Pretoria.

This is the final tournament to be held ahead of the world cup.

The chairperson of the Limpopo Netball Association, Christina Shikwabana expressed confidence at the readiness of the facility, judging from previous games.

“From the mock games we have been playing to test the facility, we have proven that indeed we are ready to host the first round of the league.”

She expressed her excitement that Limpopo residents will no longer be watching the matches on screen, but can be a part of the action while being represented by not one, but two teams.

The president of Netball South Africa, Cecilia Molokwane said they excited about the ticket sales, and that with the help of the main sponsor, Telkom, netball is growing and “going places it has never been before”.

“It shows other corporate sponsors that they should believe in women’s sports and support them. We want people to enjoy netball every day.”

The league will be played this long weekend, from April 27-May 1.
