School in a Box creates meaningful and interactive experience
The project was founded in South Africa in 2015, with the vision to develop and provide collaborative and scalable education platforms to connect, equip and empower people in Southern Africa.
MOKOPANE – School in a Box (SiaB) is an all-in-one, modular education unit for children aged five and older, and is a platform that creates meaningful and interactive learning experiences anywhere through the use of technology.
The project was founded in South Africa in 2015, with the vision to develop and provide collaborative and scalable education platforms to connect, equip and empower people in Southern Africa.
In 2020, the project became a programme of Reaching a Generation.
It is a self-paced educational resource that enables facilitators to teach students from Gr R to 12. Students are coached to master every subject through the School in a Box programme.
Gr R to 3 lessons are full-school ready, meeting South African government standards for the CAPS curriculum.
Last Wednesday, School in a Box launched three new products to add to their existing offering, at the Celebration Church Mokopane.
These products include the SiaB full school curriculum for Gr R to 3, the Christian curriculum for Gr R to 5, and lastly the brand-new School in a Box Mini Pro – an operation which continues even after a loss of electricity.
Teaching staff from various schools, education departments, corporate leaders, and church organisations joined the launch to learn more about the concept.
A panel constituting of Mpho Digashu, Dr Geoffrey Tshephe and Laura Mampholo, along with the audience, engaged in a discussion surrounding several questions, including challenges experienced in the modern-day classroom that technology aims to address.
The platform offers various subjects, from English, computer coding, mathematics, and a comprehensive Christian Curriculum. School in a Box is focused on whole-person development and can help learners to achieve their full potential.
Each kit includes either a Raspberry Pi mini server or a NUC server, which means that all lessons, as well as most of the apps, can be accessed offline, with no required internet connectivity.
