Two Oceans success for Mankweng runners
Sports officer Itumeleng Moagi says the club's preparations include athletes' involvement in various marathons.
POLOKWANE -Mankweng runners Andries Malete, Pholosho Phaladi, Thomas Romagale, Sipho Sibiya, Mahlodi Mokgoshing, Thomas Thema and Annah Maponya participated in the Two Oceans Marathon held in Cape Town, on April 15.
Phaladi ran a personal best time, ending in 42th position amid 16 000 other runners, an improvement from position 60 achieved in 2022.
These athletes are affiliates of the University of Limpopo Club and are set to participate in other major events this year, including the Comrades Marathon.
Itumeleng Moagi, sports officer at the University of Limpopo, says they are always willing to nurture athletes’ talent in the communities as well as in their preparations for the Comrades.
“The club’s preparations include athletes’ involvement in various marathons.”
Earlier this year, the athletes competed in the Capricorn District Municipality 4-in-1 Marathon in Polokwane, where most of them won various categories while others finished within the allocated qualifying time.
