Mitchell House’s Lindy Bartlet on how teaching is her calling

Lindy Bartlet, who will head Mitchell House's prep school, says teaching has always been her calling and led to her passion for educational management and leadership.

POLOKWANE –  The newly announced head of Mitchell House’s prep school Lindy Bartlet says she always knew she wanted to be a teacher.

Lindy, who has been in charge of the Squirrels Nest since joining Mitchell House in 2020, is now the head of the Enrichment Centre (EC), Intermediate Phase (IP), Junior Phase (JP) and Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre.

“I find it interesting that I had worked in all four phases individually in the past and now they have merged into one group that I will head all at once. It’s really amazing how life works out because my past and future finally meet again.”

Lindy said she strongly believes that teaching has always been her calling which led to her passion for educational management and leadership.

“This, combined with the opportunity to contribute and influence the learning of all learners in my care, motivates me as a teacher,” she said.

Lindy’s joy comes from positively contributing towards a child’s development and having an opportunity to explore the world through their eyes, which in turn plays a key role in shaping future generations.

She told the Polokwane Review that she began her journey in education in 1988 and said that one of her greatest rewards as a teacher is seeing the progress of her learners.

Lindy, who is also a mom of three, draws strength from her family and said they are her reason to work harder.

“It’s an honour to work under the leadership of our school head Stephen Lowry, to serve and grow in a school that aspires to equality and inclusivity, aiming to attain excellence in every aspect of the holistic education it offers.”
