Jolly Rolls are happiness in a tub
Owner of Jolly Rolls Bernice du Plooy says the name was inspired by the feeling the ice cream rolls gave her which is joy.

POLOKWANE – Bernice du Plooy’s stir-fried ice cream surely hooks a sweet tooth.
The 23-year-old from Fauna Park is the founder of C&C’s Jolly Rolls, a business she started in October last year.
She described her jolly rolls as a flavoursome dessert that tastes like ice-cream, “just better, smoother, and sweeter”.
“It is a beautiful process from liquid to an almost pancake or rose-like rolls of ice-cream. It is a much smoother texture than any other type of ice-cream. The customer gets to watch how it is rolled, which is something they enjoy.”
Because this technique is still quite new to the city, she had to do a lot of research and watch many videos to learn the technique.
“It took a lot of practice and a lot of failed attempts, but it is a skill that you kind of get the hang of after a while,” she said.
She explained that the C&C in C&C’s Jolly Rolls stands for Creativity&Cosmetics, which is her other business.
“When I started doing markets and events in 2021, it started off small with skincare products and 3D printed toys. My business kept growing and I decided that I really enjoyed going to markets and events, so much that I needed to think bigger. That is when I started looking into what Polokwane does not offer yet, something out of the box,” she explained.
When she made the decision to make the stir-fried ice cream, the name was inspired about the feeling the ice cream rolls gave her, which is joy, she says.
Bernice receives a lot of positive feedback from customers across the province and her business is growing in leaps and bounds from all the support she receives at markets and events, sports days and birthdays.
“Had it not been for the people of Polokwane and Limpopo, this business would not have been successful.”
A physical shop is also in the pipeline for the future, but for now, her focus is to grow her market by increasing bookings for events and get her jolly rolls the exposure they enjoy so much.
