Limpopo police on the hunt for 10 cash-in-transit heist suspects
One of the suspects was accidentally shot by one of his accomplices but all 10 fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
LIMPOPO – The police in the province launched a manhunt for a group of suspects following a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in the Sekhukhune district on Monday (May 29).
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the CIT vehicle was travelling along the Senotlelo-Mokgwaneng road in Matlelerekeng when it was attacked by a group of 10 suspects driving a charcoal sedan and a double cab bakkie.
“The heavily armed suspects began to shoot at the van and forced the security officials out and robbed them of three firearms,” his statement read.
Ledwaba said the men then placed explosives on the van and took an undisclosed amount of money.
“During the incident, one of the suspects was accidentally shot by his accomplice and was assisted by the rest of the suspects and they all fled the scene. No security officers were injured,” he said.
Ledwaba said a task team has already been activated to investigate the incident in order to bring the suspects to book.
“This team must be relentless in tracking down these dangerous criminals. The community must also assist us with valuable information to help in their speedy arrest,”concluded provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Hadebe.
