Relax during a Resho’s Creations art and craft class

The classes allow attendees to explore their creative side, gain a new hobby and be a part of a community of awesome people.

POLOKWANE – Gain a new hobby and explore your creative side was the theme for the beginners’ art and craft class which was recently held at Thabeng Guest House in Bendor.

Hosted by Resho’s Creations, the workshop was a fun way to round off the weekend and learn new skills.

Reshoketswe Maboko, the brain behind Resho’s Creations, explained that taking into consideration that this was her first class, the target was to have 10 people attend.

“The aim is to grow from here to where we will host adult and childrens arts and craft classes every month. The classes allow attendees to explore their creative side, gain a new hobby and be a part of a community of awesome people. We don’t have many options in Polokwane for art gatherings such as this one, so this is an opportunity for people to try something new,” she said.

The idea for the classes was inspired by an art workshop which she was a part of in her university days, where they would meet up on Saturdays and draw with mediums such as acrylic and charcoal over a cup of coffee.

Attendees show off their pieces after a successful class.

“It was nice to meet new people in every session. I really enjoyed it and was hoping to find something similar when I moved to Polokwane. When I didn’t, I decided to start something similar.”

This first class saw attendees learning how to paint with acrylic on tote bags, going through the colour wheel, and learning how to mix various colours.

Attendees were guided on how to prepare the bags to allow a smooth background.

“Everyone then painted an image of their choice. Initially, they were unsure of how to use acrylic paint, but through the guidance of our facilitator they got the hang of it and created beautiful images that they were proud of. They each sealed their beautiful work with their initials on their bags,” Maboko said.

For her, art is therapy, as it allows one to zone in and focus on nothing else but the project at hand.

“Art is flexible, as one can plan what they want their creation to look like and change it as they go along, and that’s okay. Creating something from scratch is empowering,” she added.
