Creamy delights thanks to a leap of faith from Sarah

Mashila said she is happy with the progress her business is making and she looks forward to work.

POLOKWANE – Creamy delights are Sarah Mashila’s forte at her business, Sarah M Creamybite’s Kitchen.

The 27-year-old took a leap of faith by resigning from her job to start her own business as she has always loved baking and decided to advance her skills by taking a baking course to better her craft and give herself an added advantage.

She implemented what she learned, combined with a natural talent and received a positive response when first advertising her work on social media.

The orders started coming as fate would have it, and she also bagged a culinary learnership. “I learned a lot during that time. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete the learnership because I needed a job to make ends meet,” she said.

She started another job and continued with her baking business as a side hustle.

While browsing social media, she came across a two-day course offered by a dessert school and took her savings to enrol.

After completing the course, she was keen to put her new knowledge to good use.

“I was excited to start using what I had learned and started selling ice-cream desserts on my days off. But I later felt that the time I spent at work could have been time spent on my own business.”

The pressure from the high volumes of customers eventually became overwhelming, and she resigned from her job to focus on the business.

Her father invested in her business and she rented space in town to operate from. Finding the perfect location for her shop was another hurdle and although she found a location, she remains in search of the perfect venue.

She now spends her time fulfilling orders from both the confectionery and dessert side of her business.

Mashila said she is happy with the progress her business is making and she looks forward to work. “I can’t wait to find the perfect space to rent and work and decorate it the way I want it to be,” she said.

Her business is located at DJ’s Complex on 93 Bok Street and she can be reached at 081 890 8173.
