Witklip Street hit-and-run victim dies on the scene

The matter has since been handed to the Polokwane police for the investigation into a case of murder.

POLOKWANE – The man who was found by emergency services workers lying in a pool of blood along Witklip Street last Wednesday night did not survive his injuries and died on the scene, Polokwane traffic media liaison, Kgaugelo Mphago confirmed this Tuesday.

The matter has since been handed to the Polokwane police for the investigation into a case of murder.

Mphago said evidence suggested that the man had been run over by a motorist who left the scene.

Polokwane police’s Capt Lesiba Ramoshaba was yet to confirm the man’s identity and age at the time of going to print.

The victim sustained a major head injury and suffered leg fractures, Mphago said.

Meanwhile, two other people died in a head-on collision between a sedan and a truck on the N1 south near the filling station last week. Community Safety MEC Florence Radzilani urged road users to take the necessary precautions when on the road during this Easter period.

Radzilani led her department’s provincial launch of the Easter road safety company in Sekhukhune on Tuesday.
