Thousands raised during e-Rotary online auction

Rotarian Adéle van der Linde said the items on auction were donations by supporters of a good cause and the event would not have been such a great success without the input and involvement of the community.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane SPCA and the Rotary E-Club of Baobab’s online charity auction that was hosted online as well as at the Polokwane Bowls Club on Thursday evening just after the conclusion of the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100’s weekly meeting, raised more than R98 000 that will be divided between the local SPCA and the Rotary Club to use for their community service projects.

According to Rotarian Adéle van der Linde, this year, the auction dubbed ‘April Awesomeness’ was true to its name, with truly awesome items to bid on, all in the name of community building and strengthening funds.

A seven nights’ stay in a three bedroom self-catering cottage at Kruger Park Lodge fetched R16 900, while another week that was also auctioned, brought in R15 100.

A sports lover forked out R5 500 for the framed signatures of 407 Springbok rugby players including legends like Mannetjies Roux and the more recent Tendai Mtwarira.

A party of six people became the beneficiaries of a two-course meal prepared at home by chef Danie for a bargain bid of only R2 300.

A liquor collector put his money where his mouth was and contributed R2 000 for a 12-year-old 750ml bottle of Clan Campbell whiskey.

A 12-year old KWV brandy, golf sets, a mountain bike, beauty and spa vouchers were also in demand and the event only concluded well after 22:00 with the guests supporting the Rotary Club’s bar.

“The items on auction were donations by supporters of a good cause and the event would not have been such a great success without the input and involvement of our community. We thank you for your support and for partnering with us to make a difference in our communities. Your support means the world to us,” Van der Linde said.
