VIDEO: Girl shot in Juju Valley unrest

Tension seemingly rose between residents wearing ANC and EFF regalia in Juju Valley this afternoon, which led to a child, among others, being injured.

POLOKWANE – A girl, whose age has not yet been confirmed, is currently receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound sustained during a clash between EFF and ANC supporters in Juju Valley this afternoon (May 19).

She is one of three Juju Valley residents taken to the hospital following the political altercation.

According to Mabotse Mothiba of the Community Policing Forum, the other individuals sustained a broken leg and a dislocated arm respectively. The source of the gunshot remains unclear.

The ANC Peter Mokaba region had scheduled several events in Juju Valley today, including the handover of 47 gazebos to 45 branches and a door-to-door campaign. Concurrently, the EFF was hosting a soccer tournament in the area.

Videos sent to the Polokwane Review-Observer show residents in ANC attire throwing stones at an approaching crowd. Another video captures burning tyres and the sound of gunshots.

Juju Valley is the last branch the EFF holds in Seshego after losing ward 10 to the ANC in a recent by-election.
